Taplejung: Transport services in Taplejung, the mountainous district in Koshi province, has been disrupted after the swollen Hewakhola river swept away a Bailey bridge in Panchthar.

A search for an alternative route has been started following the disruption of road transport in Taplejung district due to this.

The proposed alternative route is the Phungling- Bahanande-Dobhan-Hangpang road that connects to the Mid-hills highway via Aathrai Sankranti of Tehrathum district, leading to Tarai.

Chairman of Aathrai Triveni rural municipality in Taplejung district, Deependra Pomu and Chairman of Aathrau rural municipality of Tehrathum district, Dilkumar Pahim Limbu have taken the initiation to using the alternative route.

Pomu said that the condition of the alternative rural road is not so bad and it has to be repaired at some places. He believed that the route could be used with the joint cooperation of both rural municipalities.

The Aathrai Rural Municipality has started the repair works on the alternative route towards Tehrathum side while the Aathrai Trivenu Rural Municipality is carrying out the repair and maintenance works towards Taplejung side. (RSS)
