Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel has said the government yearns to achieve economic growth through increased investment in projects with promising results. He stated that these projects will be selected based on a thorough assessment of their benefits and costs and ensure effective management of such investments.
During a meeting today with Teresa Daban Sanchez, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) resident representative for Nepal, the Finance Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to carefully evaluating loans and investments in result-oriented projects.
He also expressed the government’s commitment to implementing policy reforms advised during the fourth review of the IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) for Nepal. Paudel assured cooperation with the IMF for the forthcoming fifth review, as said by the Minister’s Secretariat.
The IMF representative cited ample potentiality for Nepal’s hydropower and tourism sectors, advising that capital expenditure in result-based areas will contribute to increasing the economic growth and the size of the economy.
It may be noted that the budget for the current fiscal year aims to secure a six-percent economic growth. (RSS)
