Kathamndu: Depositors scammed by cooperatives protested in Kathmandu on Sunday, carrying a coffin.
They said Rajendra Sthapit, who was undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital, died after the cooperative where he had deposited his savings refused to release the money.
They protested at Shanti Batika, chanting slogans against the government.
Kushluv KC, chairman of the National Campaign for Protection of Cooperative Depositors, said Sthapit had deposited Rs13.6 million in a cooperative based in New Road, but he could not withdraw money for his own treatment.
According to him, the body is currently at Bir Hospital. The police registered a complaint against the cooperative’s management following the protest. KC said the deceased had been suffering from a neurological condition.
