Kathmandu: The Kathmandu-Tarai Expressway, or fast track,which is going to connect the capital and Nijagadh in southern Nepal with a 76-km highway, is 33.20 percent complete. On Tuesday, the Nepali Army announced the progress of the Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhes Expressway while attending the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee of the National Assembly.
Announcing the details of work progress, project chief Bikash Pokharel informed that the overall physical progress so far is 33.20 percent and the overall financial progress is 33.71 percent. Pokharel further added that, compared to the annual target of the current financial year, the physical progress so far is 82.77 percent and the financial progress is 69.41 percent.
It is said that tunnels will be constructed at six places with a total length of 10.055 kilometers on this expressway with a total length of 70.977 kilometers. Similarly, bridges will be constructed at 89 places with a length of 12.885 kilometers. “Three of the six tunnels are under construction, and the process has progressed with the contract agreement for the other three,” said Pokharel.
According to him, out of 89 bridges, the contract management of 85 bridge contracts has been managed and is being implemented, and efforts are being made to resolve the land acquisition-related problems in four areas of Khokna, Lalitpur. The construction of the expressway, with a total cost of Rs 211 billion, is set to be completed by mid-April 2027.
