Kathmandu: The America Nepal Medical Foundation (ANMF) has donated Rs 13 million for the upgrade and expansion of the burn center at Kirtipur Hospital.
According to the president of the foundation, Dr Binod Khadka, the money has been sent after the proposal of the burn center so that burn patients in Nepal can easily get treatment services.
“We would like to say special thanks to all the helping hands who have helped the foundation for the expansion of the burn center,” said Khadka.
The Burn Center had proposed to ANMF for assistance, saying that funds were needed for service expansion. The foundation accepted the proposal and sent the aid money.
According to the officials of Kirtipur Hospital, the money will be spent on the development and expansion of the burn center. Similarly, the funds will be spent on equipment and materials such as ICUs, ventilators, and monitors, among other things, in the burn center.
Due to the increasing incidence of burns in Nepal and the lack of centers with high-level services for their treatment, the hospital is going to expand the center to treat severe burn patients as well.
Every year, more than 600 burn patients visit the burn center of the hospital for treatment. Around 15 to 20 percent of severely burned patients admitted die in the course of treatment. The hospital is trying to move forward by expanding the burn center to reduce the mortality rate of patients.
This America Nepal Medical Foundation, which started in 1997, has been working for the development of the health sector of Nepal since its inception. It has been actively participating in advancing Nepal’s health services by carrying out various activities, from building infrastructure to enhancing medical capacity, for the promotion of education, training, and research.
