Kathmandu: Nepal secured a convincing victory over Hong Kong in the ongoing Nepal T20I Triangular Series held at the Mulpani Cricket Ground in Kathmandu. Nepal’s bowling prowess was on display as they restricted the visitors to a modest total of 94 runs in 19.3 overs, with Karan KC leading the attack with three crucial wickets. Sompal Kami and Abinash Bohara also made significant contributions with two wickets each.
Despite early setbacks with the dismissals of Kushal Bhurtel and Kushal Malla at low scores, Aasif Sheikh anchored Nepal’s innings with a commendable 42 runs, while Captain Rohit Paudel’s unbeaten 24-run knock solidified Nepal’s victory.
In the initial innings, Hong Kong struggled to build a substantial score, with only two players reaching double digits. Yaseem Murtaza’s 36 runs and Zeeshan Khan’s 17 runs were the highlights of their batting effort.
The Nepal T20I Triangular Series serves as crucial preparation for the impending ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Qualifier, scheduled to commence in Kathmandu on October 30. Nepal is placed in Group A alongside Oman, Malaysia, and Singapore, while UAE, Hong Kong, Bahrain, and Kuwait form Group B. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, and the ultimate finalists will secure qualification for the T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States.
