Kathmandu: Subash Chandra Nemwang, CPN-UML leader and member of House of Representatives in federal parliament, passed away around one o’clock Tuesday morning.
Nemwang, 71, is learnt have suffered a heart attack at his home and was subsequently taken to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Mahrajgunj, where he was pronounced dead.
Political leaders, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and UML chair KP Sharma Oli, reached the hospital to take stock of the situation.
Active in politics since student days, Nembang is a popular leader. He was the chairperson of the Constituent Assembly—both the first and second ones—from 2008-2012 and then from 2013 to 2015, under whose chair the Constituent Assembly promulgated the constitution on September 20, 2015. Nembang played an important role from his part to deliver the constitution within the September 20, 2015 deadline despite the pressures from various sources to defer the statute promulgation process.
