Kathmandu: Subhash Chandra Nembang, who served as the Chair of the Constituent Assembly and Vice president of the CPN (UML), will be laid to rest with state honors.
During an emergency cabinet meeting, it was also decided to declare a public holiday on the day of his funeral. Sudhan Kirati, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, said the final will be performed on the day of his sons’ arrival from overseas.
Subas Chandra Nembang, who was elected from Ilam-2 in the House of Representatives, passed away in Kathmandu due to a heart attack.
Active in politics since student days, Nembang is a popular leader. He was the chairperson of the Constituent Assembly—both the first and second ones—from 2008-2012 and then from 2013 to 2015, under whose chair the Constituent Assembly promulgated the constitution on September 20, 2015. Nembang played an important role from his part to deliver the constitution within the September 20, 2015 deadline despite the pressures from various sources to defer the statute promulgation process.
