Kathmandu: British Embassy in Kathmandu hosted a pre-departure event for the twelve successful Chevening scholars, all of whom will receive fully-funded support for post-graduate study in the UK this year, on Thursday. 2023 also marks 40 years since the Chevening Scholarship Scheme began, during which 249 Nepalis have been fully funded to participate in postgraduate study at UK universities in a range of sectors; building bonds of friendship between our countries as well as giving opportunity for some of Nepal’s brightest students to benefit.
To mark this special occasion and celebrate the successes of Chevening scholars in Nepal British Ambassador Rob Fenn hosted a reception for students departing for their studies in the UK, those who have recently returned from studies, and Chevening alumni in Nepal.
The Chevening Scholarship is funded by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, that lets foreign students with leadership qualities study at universities in the United Kingdom. The scheme commenced in 1983 (then known as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Awards Scheme). The scheme is named after Chevening House in Kent which is traditionally the official residence of the British Foreign Secretary.
