Kathmandu: US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, honored social activist of Nepal, Saraswoti Nepali, with the Global Anti-Racism Champions (GARC) Award, 2023′ on Wednesday. The award was conferred on Saraswoti in recognition of her two-decade plus advocacy for the human rights of excluded groups, poor and people with disability in Nepal at a program organized at the United States Department of State.
Saraswoti Nepali has been advocating and fighting for the rights of the marginalized communities in Nepal and numerous Dalit families of rural western districts of Nepal have obtained legal right over the land ownership as a result of her efforts.
Saraswoti is the first Nepali to receive this award presented by US Department of State. She is a social activist and President of the Dalit Society Development Forum.
Meanwhile, the US ambassador to Nepal Dean R Thompson has extended congratulations to Sarswati Nepali on receiving the award. “Sarswati’s tireless advocacy sets a remarkable example for us all, and this is a well-deserved recognition of her unwavering commitment to advancing the human rights of the Dalit community and other marginalized racial and ethnic groups,” Thompson wrote on Twitter.
