Kathmandu: Nepal emerged victorious against Malaysia in the third T20 Women’s match of the five-match series at Malaysia’s YSD-UKM Oval, winning by a margin of 27 runs on Thursday.
This win puts Nepal in a 2-1 lead in the series. In the previous encounters, Nepal suffered a five-wicket defeat against Malaysia on Monday but bounced back with a seven-wicket victory on Tuesday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Nepal faced an early setback with the dismissal of opener Kabita Kunwar. However, batters Sita Rana Magar and Jyoti Pandey steadied the innings before getting dismissed, along with Indu Barma and captain Rubina Chhetry. Nepal finished their innings with a total of 110 runs in 20 overs.
In response, the Malaysian women struggled to find momentum as the Nepali bowlers consistently took wickets and controlled the run rate. Although Malaysia did not lose many wickets, they failed to maintain the required run rate and fell short of the target by 27 runs. Mahirah Izzati Ismail showcased an impressive batting performance, scoring 44 runs off 54 balls.
The next match between the two teams is scheduled for Saturday.
