Kathmandu: Swarnim Waglé, a leader of Nepali Congress, has been reportedly preparing to contest the by-election in Tanahun-1 from the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

Sending a text message to four Nepali Congress leaders, Waglé wrote he will not be engaged in a party led by Sher Bahadur Deuba and Arzu Rana. The text was sent to Dr Shekhar Koirala, Dr Govinda Raj Pokharal, Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma.

Dr Govinda Pokharel confirmed that such a text message was sent by Dr Wagle.

It should be noted that Waglé  was denied a ticket during the federal parliament election held in November, 2022. Back then, Waglé was recommended from Chitwan constituency-1. Locals from Gorkha also wanted him to contest the parliamentary election from the district.  He was also open to contest the elections from Kathmandu-5.

Dr Swarnim Waglé, an eminent Nepali economist, is recognized in Nepal as a public intellectual looked up to by the younger generation for his reformist credentials and accomplishments.
