Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Friday concluded that Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane is not eligible to remain the member of parliament.
A constitutional bench of the Supreme Court annulled Rabi Lamichhane’s status as a lawmaker, concluding that his citizenship is invalid.

The bench of Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, and Justices Bishwambhar Shrestha, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Anil Kumar Sinha issued a verdict, concluding that Lamichhane, president of Rastriya Swatantra Party, produced invalid citizenship certificate to contest the election for the House of Representatives from Chitwan-2.
On December 14, advocates Yubaraj Poudel and Rabiraj Basaula registered a writ petition at the Supreme Court arguing that Lamichhane is not eligible become a lawmaker as he doesn’t have a Nepali citizenship.
With the verdict, Lamichhane has also lost the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.
