Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Sunday returned the amendment bill on the Citizenship Act to the parliament for consideration.
The amendment bill was forwarded to the Office of the President by Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota on July 31 following the endorsement of the bill from both the houses–the House of Representatives and National Assembly.
“The President has sent the amendment bill on the Citizenship Act to the House of Representatives as per Article 113(3) of the constitution citing that it needs a review,” reads a statement issued by the President’s Office.
As per the Constitution, bills, endorsed by both the houses, only become a law after the president approves.
There is a constitutional provision that the President can approve the bill passed by both houses of the Parliament within 15 days or send it back for reconsideration.
