Kathmandu: The visiting Communist Party of China (CPC) Foreign Department Chief Liu Jianchao on Tuesday met Chairman of CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli. Chief of UML Foreign Department Rajan Bhattarai said the leaders discussed issues of mutual benefits during the meeting.
According to Bhattarai, Liu discussed China-Nepal relations and emphasized on the need to move forward based on the relation between the two countries in the present context as China and Nepal have a long and cordial relations.
“China wants to continue Nepal’s roles as a development partner,” said Bhattarai quoting Liu.
Bhattarai added that the Chinese leader voiced his concern over Nepal’s commitment to the one-China policy. Quoting Oli, Bhattarai said that Nepal is committed to the one-China policy and likes to assure that it will not allow its land to be used against its neighbors.
Bhattarai said Liu didn’t speak directly about the communist alliance and added that China will not interfere in Nepal’s internal affairs.
The role of China for unity between then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) to form the Nepal Communist Party was widely discussed. Likewise, China was openly involved in attempts to settle feuds in then NCP.
Earlier today Liu called on CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and discussed development partnership, Nepal’s commitment to the one-China policy, and international politics.
