Kathmandu: Heavy rainfalls in most of the parts of the country have triggered landslides obstructing different road sections and floods waterlogging settlements.
The Sisneri road section linking Hetauda and the federal capital Kathmandu has been obstructed since Wednesday morning due to a landslide.
Police Inspector at Area Police Post, Bhimphedi, Pratima Karki shared that the road section was disrupted due to a landslide in Indrasarobar Rural Municipality-3, Ramchandra Bhanjyang last night.
With the rainfall continuing, efforts to remove the landslide debris have turned out to be challenging in the landslide-hit area. Traffic movement would be made smooth after clearing off the road, he said, adding the authority concerned would start working once the rain stops.
However, the Kulekhani-Fakhel road section and Tribhuvan highway are operational. Likewise, the Kantipath connecting Kathmandu-Hetauda has also been obstructed by the rainfall.
Likewise, the East-West highway has been completely halted with the flood sweeping away three diversions along the Nawalpur section road.
Police shared the highway traffic came to a grinding halt when the flood took away diversions constructed at different places of Nawalpur in course of the Narayangarh-Butwal road widening drive.
According to the Information Officer at District Police Office and Police Inspector Jayaram Wanta, road traffic has been obstructed when the flood blew away three diversions built for the construction of bridges.
The diversions were built for bridges over the Khaharekhola rivulet at Binaya Triveni rural municipality and Thulokhahare and Sanokhahare rivulets at Madhyabindu Municipality-10 in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta-East).
Flooding triggered by the incessant rainfall that occurred since Tuesday afternoon had taken away the diversions.
Wanta further informed that the police personnel now are constructing the diversions with the use of dozers in the flood-ravaged area.
Meanwhile, Janakpurdham has been waterlogged due to incessant rain for the last two days. Most of the houses are inundated in Janakpur sub-metropolis-10. Deputy mayor of the sub-metropolis, Kishori Saha shared that the entire settlement has been submerged in a lack of an appropriate outlet system.
Locals are facing trouble after water entered the majority of houses. The inundation has been a recurring problem when there was no systematic outlet in place.
Due to torrential rainfall, most of the government offices premises in Janakpurdham are waterlogged.
Government offices including District Administration Office, District Police, Internal Revenue and postal office are besieged with water.
Trade and business have also been hit hard with the market area waterlogged. However, no human casualty has been reported so far in the Madhes province, informed the spokesperson at Madhes Province Police Office Janakpurdham, SP Tul Bahadur Karki.
Meanwhile, Dhanusha District Police Office has cautioned the locals residing along the river banks to take safety measures in view of flooding.
