Kathmandu: A three-member committee has been formed to investigate an audio recording in which Kathmandu District Court Judge Raj Kumar Koirala and a lawyer are heard discussing a deal to release a businessman.
News24, a private television channel stationed in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening had aired a 10-minute audio recording between the judge Raj Kumar Koirala and lawyer Rudra Pokharel in which they can be heard discussing a Rs 100 million deal to release businessman Ichchha Raj Tamang on a bail bond.
A meeting of the Judicial Council held on Wednesday formed the committee led by Judicial Council member Ram Prasad Shrestha, said Law Minister Govinda Prasad Sharma.
Judge Koirala, however, claimed that he had done nothing wrong. Koirala stated that he has played a fair role despite various pressures and influences, adding that he will cooperate in the investigation process.
“My attention has been drawn to news involving me. I have not done anything wrong. I have played a fair role in spite of various influences and pressures. I express my full commitment to the investigation process by the Judicial Council,” Koirala said on social media.
Tamang is currently in jail for trial on the charge of embezzling deposits of Civil Savings and Credit Co-operative Ltd.
