Kathmandu: Vote counting is underway in Bharatpur metropolitan, one of the much talked about metropolises in the local election 2022.

Alliance candidate from Maoist Center Renu Dahal and candidate from CPN-UML Bijay Subedi are still neck and neck.

Independent candidate Jagannath Paudel, who had revolted after Nepali Congress decided to support Maoist candidate Renu Dahal, have also secured a good number of votes. Jagannath had contested the elections with the election symbol Bhuikatahar (pineapple) and has become an icon of value-based politics.

The vote counting was halted briefly today afternoon but resumed soon. The metropolis had earned notoriety in the previous local elections as two Maoist cadres had torn up and chewed the ballot papers.

Here is a glimpse of the votes:

Renu Dahal: 1876
Bijay Subedi: 1814
Jagannath Paudel: 601
