Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba left for New Delhi on Friday afternoon on a three-day official visit to India. The Prime Minister embarked on a visit to the southern neighbor at an official invitation by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A troupe of the Nepal Army paid a guard of honor to the Prime Minister. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and high-ranking government officials were present to see off Prime Minister Deuba.

This is Prime Minister Deuba’s first official visit since assuming his office as a Prime Minister for the fifth time.

The delegation led by Prime Minister Deuba left for the Indian capital via a regular flight of Nepal Airlines Corporation at 1:25 pm and is scheduled to return home from the same airlines on April 3 at 6:10 pm. Before returning home, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Varanasi, India, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Prime Minister’s entourage includes his spouse Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Pampha Bhusal, Health and Population Minister Birodh Khatiwada, Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Mahendra Ray Yadav, Chief Secretary Shaker Das Bairagi, Prime Minister’s principal private secretary Bhan Bahadur Deuba, Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal, Energy Secretary Devendra Karki, secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Rabindra Nath Shrestha, Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, Law Secretary Uday Raj Sapkota, Finance Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini, Commerce Secretary Ganesh Prasad Pandey, Health Secretary Dr Roshan Pokhrel and Agriculture Secretary Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma among others.


Other delegation members are PM Deuba’s private secretary Prakash Deuba, Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board Nepal Sushil Bhatta, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of the Nepal Oil Corporation Umesh Prasad Thani, chairs and office bearers of various business and trade associations, office bearers of the Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal and media persons.

During the visit, Prime Minister Deuba is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu. Likewise, delegation-level talks will be held with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House on March 2.

In addition, Indian Prime Minister Modi will host a luncheon in honor of Prime Minister Deuba and his delegation.

Likewise, the Indian External Affairs Minister and National Security Adviser to the Government of India will call on Prime Minister Deuba, the ministry said. Prime Minister Deuba is scheduled to address a gathering of businessmen in New Delhi.
