Kathmandu: Sparrow SMS, one of Nepal’s Value-added Service (VAS) providers of the telecom sector, has turned 12 today. The service was initiated by Janaki Technology in 2010, with a goal of providing SMS services to the general public as well as business enterprises to communicate and promote their products and business.
Since then, Sparrow SMS has grown into the market leader in mobile messaging and now powers mobile campaigns for some of the most well-known brands in Nepal, according to the company.
The company started its journey when people used to check load-shedding schedules over SMS and today it is empowering businesses for messaging through different messaging channels, said Manish Modi, Managing Director at Khalti.
Amit Agrawal, co-founder of Sparrow SMS recalls the old days, “the company started at the time when people were facing load-shedding problems, and SMS was the easy way of getting the information.”
“That was the era of load shedding and now digitalization has become a core part of daily life,” he shared. “Sparrow SMS is happy to serve people’s communication needs at crucial times including at the time of the earthquake.”
Currently, Sparrow SMS serves more than 200 million SMS in a year, he told Nepal Live Today. “Today, the company has established itself as the most trusted bulk SMS provider.”
Adaptation to the change and readiness to embrace innovation and creativity are the things that help Sparrow SMS to stand out, he said.
On this occasion of its 12th anniversary, SPARROW SMS is also launching additional Value-Added Services: Viber Business Messaging and SPARROW Voice Service, informed Manoj Thapa, CEO of the company.
Sparrow SMS is the official partner of Viber Business for Nepal. Viber is a very popular instant messaging software application among the Nepalese population. It has more than 10 million downloads and is also the primary messaging app for most communities, he informed. “Sparrow SMS can provide businesses and institutions with a Viber Business Messaging Solution that includes Transactional, Promotional, and Session Messaging with Verified Business ID.”
