Kathmandu: Nepal has requested the Saudi Arabian government to grant amnesty to Nepalis sentenced to death.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Khadka made the request through the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Fahran Al Saud. Saud is currently on a Nepal visit. Sant Bahadur Pun and Vivek Dahal, who had reached Saudi Arabia for foreign employment, were sentenced to death by a court.
After the meeting, the two ministers also signed a “General Cooperation Agreement” to increase cooperation between the two countries. The Cabinet meeting had given authority to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to sign the agreement.
Meanwhile, Prince Faisal bin Fahran Al Saud paid a courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
During the meeting held at the office of the President, Maharajgunj, today, various aspects of Nepal-Saudi Arabia relations as well as matters of mutual interest and welfare were discussed.
Foreign Minister Prince Faisal is on a two-day official visit to Nepal. Senior officials of the Office of the President and Foreign Ministry were present on the occasion.
