Kathmandu: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested Nepalis in Ukraine to return home in the wake of growing tension between Russia and Ukraine.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry also urged Nepalis not to visit Ukraine unless emergency.
“The Ministry urges Nepalis in Ukraine to evaluate current and developing situations there and return home country through available commercial flights unless emergency,” Foreign Ministry said in the statement.
The Ministry said that over 38 Nepalis in Ukraine have currently maintained contact with the Nepali Embassy in Berlin, adding that they are safe so far.
The Russia-Ukraine saga took another turn on Monday when Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the two breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk, as an independent. Following this, Putin ordered the deployment of the troops in these breakaway areas, international media reports said.
