Kathmandu: Times won the first Anmol Smriti Men’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Times, which has the majority of national and age group players, won the entire tournament undefeated.
The champions played against Royal in the final showdown and beat them 70-36. Manish K.C. of Times scored 20 points in the final match. He was announced the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Sadish Pradhan, the captain of the national basketball team, added 12 points and Bijay Burja scored 12 points for the Times.
In the tournament organized by Shiv Sena Nepal, Lalitpur, Nikesh Magar of Royal was declared man of the match. He added 16 points for the team.
Times clinched the title reversing a losing position of three-quarters. In the first quarter, Times was losing by 14-16, in second, 18-21, and in fourth 12-16. But in the third quarter, the team managed to win by 26-14, which led them to lift the title. The winning team received a reward of Nrs 1, 00,000, whereas the runner up, Royal, received Nrs 50,000.
Alongside, the organizers also honored Basketball’s technical commissioner, Durga Bahadur Thapa. Likewise, Robin Khatri, captain of the Army basketball team, was also honored with Nrs 10,000.
The event that began on 2nd January featured eight teams.
