London: Professor of Leeds University of the United Kingdom, Dr Surya Prasad Subedi has been appointed as a legal advisor of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The IUCN that was established in 1948 has its presence in 160 countries across the globe. So far, 211 countries have taken its membership from the government level while it is 1,400, including government and non-government organizations.
It is headquartered in Switzerland. Prof Subedi has been appointed to provide necessary legal advice for IUCN World Conservation Congress taking place in the UK on September 3-11.
Subedi who did his Ph.D. from Oxford University had already served as an advisor to the UK Minister for Foreign Affairs and UN human rights representative for Cambodia.
Subedi who received the Order of the British Empire Award from the UK Queen is well-known as an expert of international law.
Also having an office in Nepal, IUCN has been working in 15 diverse sectors of the environment globally.
