Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday directed Minister for Energy Pampha Bhushal to appoint Kulman Ghising as the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
According to sources, the process of appointing Ghising to the post has started following the direction of the Prime Minister. Sources added Energy Minister Bhushal summoned Managing Director Hitendra Dev Shakya earlier today and asked him to resign from the post.
The Prime Minister directed the Energy Minister to bring Ghising back to lead NEA citing a decline in profit and an increase in unannounced power cuts and power leakage.
Ghising, who had earlier severed his four-year tenure at NEA, had garnered appreciation for ending the power cut. Ghising’s tenure had ended on September 13, 2020.
Despite demand from several quarters to reappoint him to the post, the then Prime Minister KP Oli had ignored the call. Shakya was appointed NEA Managing Director on February 9, five months after Ghising’s tenure expired.
