Kathmandu: The Mahanta Thakur faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSPN) has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court against the Election Commission’s decision to grant authenticity to the rival faction.
The Thakur faction on Friday moved the apex court demanding to scarp the decision of the Election Commission to grant official status to the Upendra Yadav faction arguing that the decision is against the statute of the party.
Advocate Pradeep Kumar Pathak filed the writ on behalf of the Thakur faction. Advocate Pathak said that a preliminary hearing on the case has been scheduled for Sunday.
The Election Commission on July 26 had granted the authenticity to Yadav faction of the party following a headcount of executive committee members.
A total of 34 out of 51 executive committee members had signed in favor of Yadav. Similarly, 16 members had signed in favor of another Chairman Mahanta Thakur while one (Resham Chaudhary) had remained neutral.
The row over authenticity had reached the Election Commission after both factions, claiming themselves to be authentic, took action against leaders of the rival factions.
