Kathmandu: The Election Committee of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has clarified that the 14th General Convention of the party cannot be held on scheduled dates. The NC had announced to hold the General Convention on September 1-4.
Coordinator of the Election Committee Mahadev Yadav told the top-notch leaders of the party that it was not possible to hold the General Convention on announced dates due to lack of time.
Yadav had said that it would take more than 52 days for the Election Committee to complete the convention of all party structures. It is said that even though leaders are for holding the General Convention timely even by shortening convention of lower committees, no concrete decision has been taken so far.
The office-bearer’s meeting postponed the convention of the lower committees scheduled to start on Tuesday.
The meeting held at the Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Saturday could not even finalize the date for the convention of lower committees. Leader Arjun Narasingha KC said that the date will be decided by the Central Working Committee.
The date of the lower level convention will be discussed only after a committee formed to investigate active membership completes its work. The committee is scheduled to submit its report to the Prime Minister and party President Deuba at 9 am on Tuesday.
