Kathmandu: Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population on Friday said that the country recorded 2,239 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
A total of 11,313 tests including 6,657 RT-PCR tests and 4,656 antigen tests were done during the period. The Covid-19 positivity rate stood at 19.79 percent. Nepal had witnessed 1,875 cases on Thursday with 10,504 RT-PCR and antigen tests carried out in different laboratories across the country. The positivity rate was 17.85 percent yesterday.
With these new cases, the total infected number has reached 652,859 in the country so far. Likewise, altogether 1,316 Covid-19 patients got full recovery during the period. A total of 616,929 people have recovered from the pandemic so far. Nepal’s Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 94.5 percent and case fatality at 1.5 percent.
According to the Ministry of Health, 20 people succumbed to the pandemic in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 9,340.
There are currently 26,590 active cases.
Nepal had 50,250 active cases on June 23; 49,555 on June 24; 45,749 on June 25; 42,024 on June 26; 40,336 on June 27; 37,950 on June 28; 35,310 on June 29; 33,561 on June 30; 31,368 on July 1; 29,274 on July 2; 27,716 on July 3; 26,179 on July 4; 25,690 on July 5; 25,828 on July 6; 26,544 on July 7 and 26,447 on July 8.
Earlier today, an aircraft of the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has airlifted 800,000 Vero Cell vaccines purchased by Nepal. Likewise, the aircraft will fly on July 15 for the second lot and arrive on July 16. Again, it will take off on July 22 and bring the third shipment on July 23.
So far, the country has received 5.048 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. It aims to vaccinate 22 million people above 18. As of Friday, 964,508 people have received the second dose and 2,611,807 people the first dose.
