Kathmandu: Minister for Youth and Sports Akabal Miya has stated that he was committed to ‘One-China Policy’ and it was irrelevant to raise questions regarding his participation in a program in the past.
Minister Miya had attended a free Tibet event organized by the Latvian Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet and the International Network of Parliamentarians on Tibet in Latvia in May 2019. After it came out in the media, the Parliament Secretariat had investigated the matter and reiterated Nepal’s adherence to the ‘One-China policy.’
The issue regarding his participation in the event was raised again recently after he was appointed sports minister by PM K P Sharma Oli on June 4.
Issuing a statement on Tuesday, Minister Miya said that he was tricked and taken to the event. Saying that he had already ‘clarified before the Parliament’, Minister Miya said it was unnecessary to raise the question now.
“I am clearly committed to ‘One-China Policy’ of the government of Nepal. I would like to clarify that I fully agree with our foreign and national policies,” Minister Miya said in the statement.
