Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba will stake a claim to lead a new government pursuant to Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.
A meeting of the top leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajbadi Party, and UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal faction held at the NC Parliamentary Party’s office in Singha Durbar on Friday collected necessary signatures for the formation of a new government.
According to NC leader Gagan Thapa, a total of 149 signatures have been collected. It is reported that 27 lawmakers from UML’s Nepal faction and 13 from JSP have signed. Top leaders of the parties have reached Sheetal Niwas, the President’s Office with the signatures.
President Bhandari on Thursday had called upon the Members of Parliament (MPs) to submit their claim for the premiership till 5:00 pm today to appoint the Prime Minister as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal.
It was stated that such a move was advanced to pave a way for the formation of an alternate government since it was not appropriate to keep the country in uncertainty since there was no fundamental difference in political context than that of May 10 for getting a vote of confidence for the incumbent government.
