Kathmandu: The Supreme Court issued an interim order, asking the government not to fine the taxpayers for the delay in submission of VAT and tax within the stipulated time considering the enforcement of prohibitory order in the wake of the spread of coronavirus.
A single bench of Justice Meera Khadka ordered the government that it could arrange a month’s time from the lifting of a prohibitory order and excluding the time limit for travel for the taxpayers.
The Finance Ministry has been ordered a written response via the Office of the Attorney General within 15 days in this regard.
Advocate Sirjana Adhikari had filed a writ petition against the fine imposed by government without posting notice about tax payment timeline. There was no information about it in the website of Inland Revenue Department, she argued.
