Kathmandu: In a bid to thwart a vote of confidence for Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, lawmakers of Madhav Kumar Nepal-Jhalanath Khanal faction of the CPN-UML are mulling to resign en masse.
During a meeting of the faction held on Saturday, over 23 lawmakers had signed the resignation letter. However, they are yet to submit the resignation letter to Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota.
The Nepal faction, on Saturday evening, had given a 24-hour ultimatum to Prime Minister Oli to make sure that the party returns to the leadership as of May 16, 2018, a day before the unification between UML and CPN (Maoist Center) to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).
The faction has demanded that Oli should withdraw all the decisions made by meetings after March 12, 2021.
Around 30 lawmakers belonging to the faction are going to resign, according to sources. However, some lawmakers are opposing mass resignation.

Lawmaker Hira Chandra KC, directly elected from the Dang-3, has denied resigning citing that resigning without completing his tenure would be a betrayal to the people.
Similarly, Ganga Chaudhary, a lawmaker of the Nepal faction elected under the proportional system, has also denied to put in papers arguing that she would not resign to ‘fulfill the vested interest of leaders’ and the party’s unity should be saved at any cost.
