Kathmandu: Former Secretary Madhav Prasad Regmi has been recommended Chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
A meeting of the Constitutional Council held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Sunday picked Regmi as the head of the commission that regulates the public service provision of a public utility or other entities.
It is said that the name of former secretary Regmi has been recommended from the quota of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Regmi, a permanent resident of Jhapa, was a former secretary at the Ministry of Local Development. He had also worked with the Ministry of Education and the Public Service Commission.
Similarly, former secretary Bir Bahadur Rai has been recommended as a member of the Election Commission, sources said. Rai is the former secretary of the commission.
The names recommended by the council will be sent to the parliamentary hearing committee. As per the constitutional provision, President appoints chiefs and members to constitutional bodies following endorsement by the hearing committee.
