Kathmandu: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, has stressed the need to enhance access to public services for people with disabilities.
Speaking at a “National Workshop on Enhancing Access to Public Transport for People with Disabilities,” organized by the National Association of the Physically Disabled, the Minister highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to building inclusive and safe infrastructure for all. “The government is working to prevent disabilities caused by road accidents,” he said, stressing the importance of collective efforts to improve road safety.
The Minister urged transport entrepreneurs and workers to prioritize the convenience of passengers with disabilities.
Senior Vice President of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE), Saroj Sitaula, stated that transport workers and entrepreneurs have been sensitized to the specific needs of passengers with disabilities and encouraged to show friendly behavior towards them. He added that the promotion of disabled-friendly vehicles could be facilitated with government support.
Devi Datta Acharya, President of the National Federation of the Disabled, along with Sajha Yatayat Chair Kanak Mani Dixit, former NAPD President Kiran Shilpakar, and representatives of workers’ unions, highlighted the urgent need for disabled-friendly structures in public transport. (RSS)
