Parsa: As a medical student actively involved in the recent health camp organized by Dr. Om Foundation, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact of their efforts in healthcare. One story that stands out is that of a 30-year-old man from Mahottari who attended the camp with complaints of headaches and dizziness. Upon examination, his blood pressure was alarmingly high at 220/130, placing him at significant risk.
The attending doctor promptly administered medication to control his blood pressure and referred him to a nearby hospital for further care.
However, the man faced financial barriers and couldn’t afford the treatment. Fortunately, the foundation connected him to its telemedicine service, ensuring he received continuous guidance and the necessary medications to manage his condition. This experience highlights how the foundation is making a difference.
Dr. Om Foundation has been providing essential healthcare to the underprivileged population in Nepal, where access to medical services is limited. Through health camps, awareness campaigns, and free telemedicine services, the foundation is delivering vital healthcare to those in need.
Additionally, the foundation runs training programs that empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to enhance their health and well-being.
To date, the foundation has organized six major health camps across various regions of Nepal, benefiting over 1,630 individuals. Participants receive free check-ups, consultations with specialists, and diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms (ECG), echocardiograms (ECHO), blood sugar tests, etc.
The foundation also provides free medicines for conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease, with a supply that lasts at least a month. In some cases, the foundation has even helped patients receive surgical treatment for medical conditions requiring surgery. Educational materials are also distributed to empower individuals to make informed health decisions.
In addition to health camps, Dr. Om Foundation offers free telemedicine services from its office in Basundhara, Kathmandu, aimed at individuals who face financial or geographical barriers to accessing healthcare. Through phone consultations and online tools, patients can connect with doctors and receive the medical care they need. This service ensures that people in remote areas or those unable to afford frequent hospital visits have access to essential healthcare.
The foundation also runs Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)and life-saving skills training programs, which have been conducted for the Armed Police Force, media professionals, and the general public. These programs are empowering individuals with the ability to handle medical emergencies, making a significant contribution to public health safety.
Dr. Om Foundation is making a meaningful impact in Nepal by providing essential healthcare through health camps, telemedicine services, and training programs, empowering communities to take charge of their health. Being part of this initiative as a medical student was a truly enlightening experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful cause.
