Law Minister calls for amending Nepal Bar Council Act

Kathmandu: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Chaurasiya, has stressed the need to amend the Nepal Bar Council Act to make the job of legal practitioners more systematic and decent.

In a meeting of the Committee for Legislation Management, the National Assembly today, he echoed the need to revise the Act. He was taking part in deliberations in principle regarding the Nepal Bar Council Act (second amendment) Bill. 

The provisions for disciplinary action and further standards for senior advocate will help systematize this profession additionally, he said, insisting the essentiality to endorse the Bill following comprehensive discussions on it within the Committee.

 Secretary at the Ministry, Uday Raj Sapkota, said the Bill proposed to establish a lawyers’ academy to further train legal practitioners including to have other many provisions.

President on the Committee, Tulasha Kumari Dahal, said following the completion of the discussions in principle, the Committee will sit for stakeholders concerned and experts and then go for clause-wise discussions on the Bill. (RSS)
