Kathmandu: Chitwan Rhinos registered a commanding five-wicket win against Kathmandu Gurkhas in the second match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Monday.
Rhinos achieved a medium target of 112 runs in just 17.1 overs with 17 balls remaining. To register the first win Rhinos’ Santosh Karki scored 28 runs, Luc Benkenstein scored 22 runs, and Captain Kushal Malla, Sharad Vesawkar and Ravi Bopara scored 11 runs each.
Gurkha’s bawler Shahab Alam took three wickets by giving 20 runs in four overs but couldn’t stop his team from losing with Rhinos. Similarly, Gerhard Erasmus and Dan Douthwaite each took a single wicket.
Earlier, batting first Kathmandu Gurkhas scored 111 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.
To minimize Gurkhas in just 111 runs Rhinos’s bawler Sohail Tanvir alone took five wickets by giving 21 runs in four overs spell. Similarly, Rijan Dhakal, Kushal Malla, Amar Routela and Luc Benkenstein took one wicket each.
Gurkhas’s Sumit Maharjan scored the highest 29 runs, Michael Levitt scored 25 runs, Dan Douthwaite scored 19 runs and Shankar Rana scored 16 runs.
