191 people killed in natural disaster in three months

Kathmandu: A total of 191 people have died in 10 districts of Bagmati province except the valley during the three months of the current fiscal year 2081/82 due to disasters such as floods, landslides, inundation and fires.

According to Bagmati Province Police Office in Hetauda, of them 177 people died due to floods, landslides and inundation triggered by the heavy rainfall that took place on September 27 and 28 alone. Office spokesperson Superintendent of Police Durgaraj Regmi said 157 people died from landslides, 11 people were washed away by floods and nine people drowned in the first three months of the current fiscal year 2081/82.

During this period, eight people died due to electrocution, four due to lightning strike and one each due to incident of fire and wild animal attack. Another 173 people were injured and 11 people are still missing since in the disaster.

Likewise, 171 concrete houses, 673 mud houses and 161 sheds were damaged due to the natural disaster that occurred during that period. According to that office, 93 vehicles and 20 industries were damaged. Furthermore, 83 schools and 12 government offices in different districts were damaged.

As a result of the disaster, 48 concrete and suspension bridges were damaged due to floods and landslides during that period. Spokesperson Regmi said that many roads connecting the federal capital Kathmandu were blocked after bridges and roads were washed away and they are being repaired and operated gradually. (RSS)
