Kathmandu: The Dakshinkali Municipality has released water to Lalitpur on the request of Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav.

Minister Yadav on Saturday urged the people’s representatives and locals of Dakshinkali to ‘cooperate’ in supplying drinking water to Lalitpur after the water supply there was disrupted due to the damage to the water supply system caused by the recent floods and landslides.

The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) Bhainsepati said that water released from Dakshinkali has reached to the KUKL’s water tank at Bhainsepati late night Saturday. The Municipality diverted water to Lalitpur from the local Kuturi source following the Minister’s request.

The KUKL stated that an agreement has been reached with the Dakshinkali Municipality that several commitments made to it and the locals will be fulfilled immediately after the Dashain festival.

Ministry Secretary Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya said that as per the agreement, the Dakshinkali Municipality will release water till Dashain for the time being and a meeting would be convened on October 19 among the Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the Dakshinkali Municipality and KUKL to prepare an MoU on the topic of what works can be carried out after assessing and preparing the cost estimation of the entire damage to the water supply system.

KUKL executive director Ashok Poudel said they will start supplying the water from Bhainsepati tank to the Lalitpur denizens at the earliest. (RSS)
