Baglung: Baglung reported 18 casualties from the monsoon-induced disasters in the past three months.
To date since July 29, ten men and eight women were killed in the landslides and floods.
Twelve deaths (six women and six men) were in the Badigad rural municipality while Baglung municipality reported four deaths (one woman and three men) and Galkot two (one woman and one man).
District Police Office, Baglung’s police inspector Pratap Paudel said the majority of the casualties were due to the burials of houses by landslides.
Similarly, 22 people were injured in the disasters including seven in Badigad, one in Jaimani municipality and one in Bareng rural municipality.
An 11-year-old boy from Badigad rural municipality-10 has been still missing in the landslide.
It said around 80 families have been affected by the disasters alone in Badigad, according to rural municipality Chair Gandaki Thapa Adhikari. It has been estimated that some 150 families have been affected throughout the district.
The local representative said they expect support and cooperation for the post-disaster management efforts as the locally available resources are not enough to address the situation effectively. The ward number 10 at Badigad has been affected the most. This time, monsoon rain was recorded more than average in the country.
She said casualties and other physical losses during this monsoon were unexpected. “The entire Badigadis in shock. The monsoon havoc is not over as the rain continues. Many have been rendered homeless, many have lost relatives and they are in a great disaster we have tried our best to console them during these hours of grief.” (RSS)
