At least 14 killed in Indian bus accident in Tanahun

Tanahun: At least 14 people died when an Indian bus plunged into the Marsyangdi River at Aina Pahara in Tanahun on Friday morning.

The police said that the bodies of 14 people were recovered from the crashed bus, and search and rescue for others are going on. There were 35 people on the bus with Indian number UP 53 FT 7623, which fell about 150 meters from the Prithvi Highway.

According to the Armed Police Force (APF), a team of 80 armed police, including 10 divers led by SSP Madhav Paudel from the APF Disaster Management Training School, started rescue work at the accident site and has been deployed in the rescue operation. The work of bringing the injured and deceased to medical facilities is being conducted.

Security personnel are having difficulties conducting search and rescue operations due to bad weather and the high flow of the Marsyangdi River. Some passengers are missing, and a search is going on with the help of police and locals, said the police.

According to the Tanahun District Police Office, on Friday at around 11:30 AM, an Indian number plate bus coming from Pokhara to Kathmandu fell into Marsyangdi from a place called Aina Pahara in Aanbookhaireni Rural Municipality, Tanahun district.

The bus can be seen from the road in rough condition on the bank of the Marsyangdi River. A rescue team, including Nepal Police and armed police divers, has been deployed at the accident site.
