Karnali: Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel has instructed the security agencies to carry out security checks in a way not to create hassles to the general public.

In a meeting with representatives of the province-based security agencies and transport entrepreneurs on Tuesday regarding problems in the transport sector, Chief Minister Kandel directed them to make arrangements for security checks in such a way that it would not be inconvenience to the citizens and businessmen but security sensitivity is maintained.

“I found that checkpoints have been set up at 17 places from Surkhet to Jumla via Dailekh,” he shared, urging the security agencies to reconsider whether it was appropriate to carry out security checks in so many places.

Stressing the need to bring those violating the prevailing laws to book, he said the people should not suffer unnecessarily in the name of law enforcement. Journalists, industrialists, businessmen, civil society leaders and legal practitioners had drawn attention of the authorities concerned towards harassment facing the general public in the name of security checks and the traffic police of slapping actions against the rules.
