Damak: A female student was shot in broad daylight in Damak, Jhapa, on Friday afternoon.
An 18-year-old Yenika Adhikari was shot while returning after appearing in her grade 12 examination near her rented apartment in Ward 5 of Damak Municipality at around 12:30 pm.
According to the police on the case, it has been revealed from the preliminary investigation that one shot of a bullet was fired in her stomach.
Adhikari is a resident of Udayapur district who was studying at Himalaya Secondary School, Damak, while living in a rented apartment.
According to police, the girl is receiving treatment at the Damak-based Lifeline Hospital, and the man who shot her is a 30-year-old man from Siraha district.
Police have been mobilized on the premises of the hospital.
According to the hospital, the bullet has been removed from the stomach.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Chand, spokesperson at the Jhapa District Police Office, said that the person who fired the bullet had fled, and the police have issued a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) in the name of the man to catch him.
“Further investigation into the case is going on,” said Chand.
