Kathmandu: Nepal continued its remarkable run in the WAFF Women’s Championship 2024 by securing a spot in the final, defeating Lebanon 2-1 at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday.
Trailing after an own goal by Rakshyak Puja Rana in the 38th minute, Nepal made a comeback as Sabitra Bhandari scored in the 75th minute of the game. Preeti Rai secured the win with a goal in the final minute of added time in the second half.
With this victory, Nepal earned a place in the final against defending champions Jordan, who defeated Palestine 5-0 in the other semifinal match.
This is Nepal’s maiden appearance in the championship.
Nepal will face five-time champion Jordan in the final on February 29.
