Kathmandu: Nepal Medical Association and Sasthsathai, a social organization, on Thursday signed an agreement to work on climate change issues in Nepal.
As per the agreement, they will work together to reduce the impact of climate change on the health of women, children, senior citizens, poor and backward groups.
“There will be cooperation between two parties in health, education and social awareness,” the agreement reads.
Nepal Medical Association President Dr Anil Bikram Karki and Sathsathai organization President Prajita Karki signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of their respective organizations.
Sathsathai is currently focusing on climate change and its impacts in various regions, including the Himalayas, which encompass Mount Everest, Melamchi, and the Terai. On March 3, Sathsathai, alongside prominent women from diverse fields, will start a trek from Lukla to Kalapatthar to raise awareness about climate change and advocate for measures to mitigate its effects.
Dr Karki, the President of the Nepal Medical Association, said that this agreement has provided them with renewed energy to address climate change and its effects on health.
Prajita Karki, President of Sathsathai, said that climate change significantly impacts health, and expressed that through collaboration with the Nepal Medical Association, they are motivated to work on addressing climate change and its health-related ramifications.
