Kathmandu: An arrest warrant has been issued against Pratik Thapa, son of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, for his alleged involvement in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, according to the police.
The warrant was issued after evidence was found against him, according to police. Pratik had previously denied any involvement and offered to cooperate with the investigation. He, however, is on the run.
Earlier today, the Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against Angtawa Sherpa, former member of the House of Representatives, for his alleged involvement in the case.
Other high-profile figures, including former home minister Bal Krishna Khand and former home secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, have been arrested in connection with the scam.
Arrest warrants have also been issued against suspended UML secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Niraj Rai, son of Indrajit Rai, advisor to former Minister Thapa. But they are on the run.
