Kathmandu: The Central Discipline and Conduct Committee of the Rastriya Swatantra Party on Wednesday recommended action against its lawmaker Dhaka Kumar Shrestha over his involvement in seeking a bribe from a medical entrepreneur.
The Committee has recommended that Shrestha be removed from the position of lawmaker and expelled from the party as a general member.
On Sunday, an audio recording, which was leaked, revealed that Shrestha asked for a bribe from Durga Prasai, owner of B & C Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Jhapa. In the leaked audio, Shrestha asked Rs20 million from Prasai to secure the position of Health Minister, and bring reforms in the healthcare sector that would benefit Prasai.
After the incident, the Rastriya Swatantra Party had suspended Shrestha from both lawmaker and party membership.
Likewise, a complaint has also been registered at the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to investigate the case.
