Kathmandu: The Supreme Court of Nepal has refused to issue an interim order in the case involving Rabi Lamichhane’s passport and citizenship.
This means, Lamichhane, who is the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and currently serves as a Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, can continue in his role as a lawmaker
Lamichhane is accused of not renouncing his Nepali citizenship when obtaining US citizenship, and of using his old Nepali citizenship even after giving up his US citizenship. He is also accused of obtaining a Nepali passport while still holding a US passport.
The full hearing for the case has been scheduled for January 25. This is the second time the Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order in this case, as it also declined to do so on December 21.
Lamichhane was elected to the House of Representatives from Chitwan-2 and leads the Rastriya Swatantra Party, which has 20 seats in the lower house.
