Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has intensified its drive to bulldoze structures built illegally.
According to officials, the KMC has started demolishing illegal structures 35 days after issuing public notice to remove structures–built without permission from the metropolis. However, businesses and traders of shopping complexes ignored requests from the KMC.
On Wednesday, the KMC bulldozed illegal structures built in front of the Sundhara-based Kathmandu Mall, Kichapokhari-based RB Complex, and London Pub in Durbar Marg.
The Metropolis believes the move to demolish illegal structures would resolve 25 percent vehicle parking problems in Kathmandu. “The structures bulldozed today were built without permission from the KMC,” said Sunil Lamsal, member of the Secretariat of the KMC Mayor Balendra Shah. “As basements are utilized for operating businesses, vehicles are often parked outside the buildings in Kathmandu. This has caused problems in traffic management.”
In the meantime, the KMC has also asked the Kathmandu District Court at Babarmahal to present the blueprint of its building.
Earlier, the KMC also demolished structures built illegally in New Baneshwor area.
