Kathmandu: The Ministry of Health and Population directed all the hospitals in the country to observe necessary precautions and be in a state of readiness as the monsoon is already active.
Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, Chief of the Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit instructed the same as contaminated drinking water along with monsoon-triggered calamities had added challenges to sanitation spurring chances of spread of contagious infections such as cholera.
The Kathmandu Valley has recorded 17 cases of cholera since monsoon this year. The hospitals have been asked to keep vigilance for disaster and epidemic response efforts and to keep workers in a ready state, manage beds in hospitals as per the need, and put in place necessary medical equipment.
The Ministry also directed to devise mechanism and action plan to minimize the loss of life and properties through optimal use of the resources in the healthcare facilities.
